History Sheeters (2)- L K Advani – Babri Masjid and Jinnah

Distorting history has been the USP of the leaders of BJP, giving rise to a new offence in criminology- “Histerocide”- Murder of Indian history, akin to homicide! The second history -sheeter of this crime is L K Advani who presented the most convoluted history of the Babri Masjid and made Babar appear as the villain to the average Hindu; the Babri Masjid was painted as a hate symbol. With the aid of his twisted history, Advani carried out the most aggressive communal campaign of the last century that ended with the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the reward of 182 seats in the 1999 parliamentary elections. Advani however got away scot-free.

Then came the U-turn. During his visit to Karachi on 4th June, 2005, Advani inscribed the following message in the Visitor’s Book at the Jinnah Mausoleum:

“There are many people who leave an inerasable stamp on history. But there are very few who actually create history. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah was one such rare individual. In his early years, Sarojini Naidu, a leading luminary of India’s freedom struggle, described Mr. Jinnah as an “Ambassador of Hindu-Muslim Unityâ€. His address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on August 11, 1947 is a classic, a forceful espousal of a Secular State in which every citizen would be free to practise his own religion but the State shall make no distinction between one citizen and another on the grounds of faith.
“My respectful homage to this great man.â€

This U-turn however costed Advani very dearly. His declaration of history in Karachi didn’t go down with well the RSS. Advani got demoted. It also proved that “one man’s history” can be another man’s hysteria.
