Time comes in the life of every Nation to decisively resolve its internal contradictions and emerge as a Nation for the people, by the people and of the people. 66 years after our Independence, our Nation is once again at the cross-roads. The intense accumulation of wealth by a handful of industrial houses in complicity with ruling political parties since 1990 has led the nation exactly in the opposite direction than intended. The constitutional goals of an egalitarian society is crushed under the wealthy boots. The integration of Indian economy with the globalized world economy has only added impetus to this process of concentration of wealth in a few hands. While Arvind Kejriwal does not articulate that the growing contradiction in our country because of the unchecked concentration of wealth is due to the capitalist economy, he does blame the poverty in the country as a consequence of “crony-capitalism” and corruption in high places.
Be that as it may, we have a decisive struggle facing us in form of General Elections of 2014. The rising divisive forces of the saffron brotherhood have made their greatest ever effort to capture the central power. The tainted Congress and their allies look too weak to counter the onslaught of BJP with Modi being backed by the money power of Ambanis and Adanis. In this war between the two dominant parties, Aam Aadmi Party appears to be the only party that is on the streets trying to remind the people that the country belongs to the Aam aadmi and not the elite. Arvind Kejriwal is obviously facing the flak from all other political parties for his audacity to challenge the might of crony capitalists. It is an unequal fight between one David and two Goliaths.
Gujarat has become the citadel of the saffron brotherhood for quite sometime and we at Jan Sangharsh Manch know the ruthlessness with which the rightist forces can function to capture the power through the electoral process and subvert the rule of law as soon as they get into power. The aftermath of the 2002 riots and the complete denial of justice to the minorities by paralyzing all the institutions of state-power is too recent to be overlooked. The fact that Modi can claim a clean-chit despite the cold blooded murder of over a thousand innocent citizens and still be adulated by lakhs of lumpen elements all over the country shows the success of the devious and vicious propaganda machinery.
All genuine left and democratic forces must therefore close in their ranks and defeat the fountainhead of fascism and communalism namely Narendra Damordas Modi. There might be differences vis-a-vis strategies and tactics between AAP and various left democratic groups but this is not the time for academics or polemics. If we agree that the rightist forces are required to be stemmed and we realize that Congress and their allies are incapable of taking on the rightist forces, we as true democrats must support the struggle of Aam Aadmi Party. We thus appeal to all citizens and organizations to unite and defeat Modi both in Banaras. Let us all descend on Banaras and snuff the life out of BJP’s virulent propaganda. Let’s make Banaras Narendra Modi’s political burial ground.
